April 2008

It’s April and snowing!
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2008 and Congratulations to ten of our students who have received the first ever Darlington Learning Zone ‘Super Scholar’ awards.
Well done:
Eleanor Crick, Hannah Evans, Kimberley Henderson, Adityo Khastgir, Charlotte Lewington, Cara Websdale, Jonathan Penney, Benjamin Potter, Christian Potter and Shaden Tuma.
All these students have been working with us for the last two years.
In future we will make awards every term based on attendance, a positive attitude and progress made in learning. There will be awards for Infant, Junior and Secondary students.
Our Best Wishes go with all our students taking SATs over the next month. Every one of these students has shown tremendous motivation, conscientious effort and dedication — SATs week for our Year 9 students is May 6th to 9th when we will say good bye to some KS3 students, although others are remaining to get a ‘head start’ on their GCSE courses.
The Year 6 students take their exams between Tuesday 13th and Friday 16th May. The
summer term of Year 6 is always great fun, brimming with the activities that have been put on hold to prepare for the SATs. Have a great time, enjoy the summer—you deserve it! Moving onto secondary school in September can seem a bit daunting so if you need a confidence boost or just to get the brain back in working order the Learning Zone will still be here to help,
We would also like to say GOOD LUCK and farewell to all our GCSE
students. Matthew Good, Bianca Fawlk, Beau Harrington, Nicola Suddes, Sammi McGuigan, Charlotte Britton, Hannah Brough, Liam Campbell, Laura Franks, Jenna Meek, Daniel Wrigley and Adityo Khastgir. We are sure that their hard work and commitment will be rewarded. Please don’t forget us and call in at the end of August to let us know how things have gone.
NEW OPENING TIMES
We now have 86 students registered with the Learning Zone.
Thanks again to those who have told other people about us. Most of our new
students are enrolling through your recommendations.
In order to accommodate everyone, from 1st June 2008 we will be holding lessons six days a week. We will not be continuing our one 7:00 p.m. lesson on Wednesday but will have lessons from Monday to Friday at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Please do collect and sign a copy of our updated terms and conditions from the desk. They will come into effect from September 2008.
Best wishes
Gaynor and Ann
