What Is Daytime Tuition?
Our daytime tuition provision offers an alternative to school for students in Years 7 to 11 who are unable to attend mainstream education. We are an approved Alternative Education Provider for Darlington Borough Council, working with students who are referred through the local authority or directly by their school.
Sessions take place at our office at The Imperial Centre in central Darlington, providing a calm, structured and supportive environment away from the pressures of a mainstream classroom.
What We Cover
All daytime sessions cover English and Maths, following the National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. We tailor the content to each student’s current level, working on the areas they find most challenging while ensuring progress towards their year group expectations. For students in Years 10 and 11, we also focus on GCSE English and Maths preparation, supporting them towards achieving the grades they need.
How Sessions Work
Daytime sessions are two hours long and run Monday to Thursday, with two session times available: 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Each student receives one-to-one tuition with their own individual and personalised learning plan.
We work on areas which a student has often missed or not understood in school and work at their pace to ensure this knowledge is retained as much as possible. We liaise with schools, referrers and parents to ensure continuity of learning.
Outcomes
We often find that students who attend our daytime provision show a significant improvement in their attendance and engagement with learning. In a focused one-to-one setting, many students make progress they would not otherwise have achieved. Students frequently attain higher grades than they would have done had they remained in school.
Who Is It For?
Daytime tuition is suitable for students in Years 7 to 11 who are not currently attending mainstream school, including those who are:
- Excluded or at risk of exclusion
- Unable to attend due to medical, emotional or other needs
- Awaiting a school place
- Referred through Darlington Borough Council’s alternative provision framework
Referrals can be made through the school, the local authority or by contacting us directly. Before any placement is confirmed, we will arrange an initial meeting at our office to find out more about the student, understand their current levels and identify how we can best support them.
How to Refer a Student
If you are a school, parent or local authority representative looking to arrange daytime tuition for a student, please get in touch with us directly. We will discuss the student’s needs and arrange an initial meeting.
