Maths Tuition in Darlington

Expert, personalised Maths tuition for primary and secondary students – from Year 3 through to GCSE.

What We Cover

Our Maths tuition follows the National Curriculum for Years 3 to 11 and is tailored to each student's current level and goals. From building number confidence in primary school through to GCSE preparation, we ensure every student gets the support they need.

  • Number and arithmetic — the four operations, fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Algebra — equations, expressions, graphs and sequences
  • Geometry — shape, angles, area, volume and transformations
  • Statistics and probability
  • Ratio and proportion
  • KS2 SATs arithmetic and reasoning paper preparation
  • GCSE Maths preparation — Foundation and Higher tiers

How Sessions Work

Each session lasts one hour. We build a personalised learning plan around the topics your child finds most difficult, noting new areas to work on together as we get to know them better. At the start of every session we also ask whether there is anything they have been learning at school that they would like more support with. Sessions involve explanation, worked examples and practice questions, always at the right pace for your child.

There are up to 3 students per session and every child works on their own individual and personalised learning plan with focused, one-to-one attention from our teachers throughout.

Maths SATs Course — Year 6

We also offer a dedicated Maths SATs Course for Year 6 students that can be completed entirely at home. A resource pack is posted out for free and weekly video lessons are emailed to you, covering the arithmetic topics students find most challenging.

GCSE Preparation

For Years 10 and 11, we work through past papers, practise exam technique and target topics most likely to come up. We are familiar with both Foundation and Higher tier specifications and know how to help students maximise their marks.

Pass Marks and Grades for SATs and GCSEs

Understanding how your child is assessed can help you make sense of their progress and targets.

KS2 SATs (Year 6) — Students receive a standardised score. A score of 100 or above is a pass (meeting the expected standard). A score of 110 or above indicates greater depth. Scores below 100 mean a child has not yet met the expected standard for their age.

GCSE (Year 11) — GCSE grades run from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest). A grade 4 is a standard pass. Students who do not achieve at least a grade 4 in Maths will need to resit the following year. A grade 5 is considered a strong pass and is required for many college courses and apprenticeships.

Who Can Benefit?

Maths tuition helps students who are struggling, those consolidating understanding and able students aiming for the highest grades. We work with students from Year 3 through to Year 11 and with students resitting their GCSE Maths.
